Read the entire ingredient list

Do not rely only on bold type or the front-of-pack claims. Read every ingredient and the allergen statement each time you buy the product.

Understand Contains and advisory wording

A Contains statement identifies major allergens used as ingredients. Phrases such as may contain or made in a facility are voluntary advisory statements about possible cross-contact.

When the label is unclear

Set the item aside and contact the manufacturer. A scan can help organize the text, but it cannot replace the official label or your care plan.
